SBVC - Marta Macias Brown Scholarship
Marta Macias Brown was raised in the Westside of San Bernardino. A graduate of San Bernardino Valley College, she was recognized as a Distinguished Alumna. She received her B. A. from CSU, San Bernardino and did graduate work at UC Riverside.
Marta was the original editor of El Chicano newspaper and the founder of the George Brown Legacy Project. She was a dedicated community advocate who touched the lives of many with her kindness, passion and unwavering commitment to social justice. During her lifetime, she worked in positions of service to community. Marta served on many committees on a local and state level and was a governor’s appointee as a public member the State Bar. She was a firm believer in the power of education to transform lives and communities so we, the family, wish to continue her legacy by the establishment of a scholarship fund to help a continuing student. The recipient should be a female student who is majoring in social science with a 2.5 grade point average or higher.
