CHC - Carleton W. Lockwood Memorial Scholarship
Carleton W. Lockwood Memorial Scholarship – Carleton W. Lockwood, a civil engineer in Rialto, was well known for his top-rate engineering skills, his invaluable contributions to Rialto’s city development, and his strong principles and trustworthiness. In addition to doing many jobs in the Inland Empire, Lockwood Engineering and Surveying Company also worked on various jobs in Nevada for the military in the early 1960s, including working in Area 51 on the runway for the now famous SR-71 reconnaissance jet. Because he believed education was one of the highest priorities in the success of a community and nation, he ran for and was elected to serve as a trustee for the San Bernardino Community College District Board of Trustees. He served in that position for 22 years, and for 11 years as a board member of the West San Bernardino County Water District. Carleton earned his Bachelor’s of Civil Engineering from Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, New York. Following graduation, he moved his family to California, where he worked for the California State Highways, S.B. Barnes Structural Engineers, and C.E. Johnson in Rialto before establishing the Lockwood Engineering Firm.
Criteria: Awarded to a continuing Crafton Hills College student; engineering, math or science career; GPA of 3.0 or higher.
