CHC - Diane Kelsey Memorial Scholarship

Diane Kelsey Memorial Scholarship – Diane Kelsey was a science teacher in Montebello Unified School District for over forty years. She was very inspirational to many students, for she taught English, general science, biology and AP biology and geology during her tenure there. Her attitude toward teaching can be summarized best by this quote, “I am always changing my repertoire; when something works in the classroom, find something that will work better.” During her last year of teaching, she won the award for Outstanding Geoscience Teacher from NAGT (National Association of Geoscience Teachers). She also mentored many teachers, including Richard Hughes, the current full time instructor of the earth science department at Crafton Hills College. Once Professor Hughes began teaching at CHC, Diane continued to run the geology programs at the high school, while at the same time helping with the field program at Crafton Hills. Diane was a great friend, mentor, and above all a wonderful teacher. This scholarship was established in 2014 by Richard Hughes.
