SBVC - Luis Torrez Memorial

Luis Ibarra Torrez moved to San Bernardino after WW II. He owned a restaurant on Fifth Street for several years. He met and married his wife, Calista Roseana Torrez, and they became parishioners at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Fifth Street. They raised their family on the west side of San Bernardino participating in many local community endeavors. Both Mr. and Mrs. Torrez availed themselves of many courses offered at San Bernardino Valley College over the course of their adult lives. They both believed in the power of education to enhance one’s professional and personal life. Students of any major are eligible with preference given to Mexican-American students from SBVC’s feeder high school districts.
